I've been underground this week, mostly recovering from the amazing "Your life, Your Legacy event with Roger Hamilton last week. Mind-blowing! Roger spent two and a half days talking about the next 10 waves of opportunity washing up on our beaches sometime soon. And the great thing about it is, that we can be riding every single wave!
Wave 1
Mobile Lifestyle - work from anywhere. As I write from my home office, overlooking the garden, I can see the birds flying about doing what they do. I can hear the thunder which is bringing the latest weather challenge to the north west - a hail storm. The sun streams in the window and my daughters will be home from school soon. I wouldn't work anywhere else than at home. It suits me just fine. Not for me those souless cubicles, hierarch of managers and a faceless chief exec. On no, those days are long gone for me. If I can't run my business from home, I'm in the wrong business. Put yourself in the right location, have something to say and catch this wave.
Wave 2 The Renaissance of the East. This was an eye-opener for me. Do you know that the balance of wealth and power was always in the east? The west only took control about 150 years with the onset of the industrial revolution. In the history of mankind, the west has only had the wealth for 150 years - not long is it? And it's moving away again - back to the east, and according to Roger, it ain't never comin' back. There are just too many customers in the east (note to self: what's our Chinese strategy?)
Wave 3 - The frictionless community. Sell anything to anyone, anywhere. No boundaries. The internet has become the greatest vehicle for this idea. And it's barely even started. And what about taxes? Will the government be able to collect taxes from income from cyberspace? I think not.
Wave 4 World Wide Wealth. This is Roger's dream for the world. The distribution of wealth (not just money). Global systems of flow and local circles of trust. Who do you trust? The banks? The government? The health service? The education system? The large institutions? No, neither do I. Build your own circle of trust globally.
Wave 5 The end of primitive medicine, and by that I mean, I'm ill, I go see the doctor, doctor gives me a pill and I go away. Enter predictive health and disease forecasting. Total memory recall, infra red vision, long range vision, super hearing, tool augmentation (the mind boggles), superhuman enhancements. How much would you pay for an extra 20 years of your life?
Lack of flow is the cause of disease. Here are Roger's symptoms for the causes of disease.
Addition: believing that anxiety and fatigue are normal. Deny you have created your lack of flow. Blame others for your situation. Find excuses for inaction. Avoid medical check ups. Give up often.
Overcoming this addiction: Acceptance, acknowledgement, commitment, create massive leverage, change your environment, change your behaviour, measure your progress, celebrate your results.
Wave 6 The future of money. Money has power over due to either lack of trust, or trust of lack. Entrepreneurs print their own money (note to self: buy a printing press), by creating trust within a circle of influence. Did you know that during the Great Depression in the USA, thousands of small communities invented their own currencies. Amazing. And it's happening now. Airmiles is a private currency. Nectar points is a private currency.
Wave 7 The illusion of limited resources creates poverty. And it is an illusion. Lack of money does not cause poverty. Poverty is in the mind. Hmmm.....
Wave 9 Global Flowers. The end of nation states and the rise of city states - like Rome. Except this time it will be different, indeed it is already different - take Dubai or Singapore - fabulous places to live and work. Alreaady 50% of the world's population are living in cities. Circles of trust are formed within cities
And finally...
Wave 10 Entrepreneurs - us. We are the change agents for the world. We are the wave. And the world is waiting.....
